Thousands of people in America whose computers were infected over a year ago with a computer virus are at risk of running loosing internet connection on the Monday.

At 12:01 am EDT (1601 GMT) on Monday, the FBI plans to shut down internet servers installed as a temporary security system so that infected computers could access the Internet over the past eight months.

The court order obtained by the FBI to keep the servers running already expired and was not renewed.

The problem began when international hackers put a misleading advertisement online to take control of more than 570,000 infected computers worldwide.

The virus, which changes the parameters involving domain names and IP address, blocks the updates of anti-virus systems.

In an unusual move, the FBI hired a private company to install two web servers that replaced the DNS information so infection machines would remain online.

The FBI got a private company that installed the Web site http://www.dcwg.org where computer users can check if your computer is infected and find links to other computer security companies to find a solution to the problem.

From the beginning, most of the victims knew their computers were infected, but the malware has probably slowed your internet browsing and have disabled your antivirus software, which makes them more vulnerable their devices.

Many people who use computers do not fully understand the complexity of their machines, and that some do not trust the government.

In addition to computers of individual users, about 50 Fortune 500 companies are still infected, Grasso said.

Other Internet providers decided to simply wait for their phone calls for assistance.

By Monday, if you have no access to the internet, contact your local internet service provide (ISP).
